The Computer Programming Certificate is designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in any field other than computer science or computer engineering. Through an eight-course program, you will build the skills you need to grow your career or pursue a master’s degree.
The certificate program, offered in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science, can be completed as a non-degree student (NDS). A certificate will be awarded to NDS students who have met the course requirements. The certificate is not part of graduation but is awarded as recognition of a student completing this series of courses.

5G Technology Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in 5G Technologies provides students with advanced academic credentials in the algorithmic, chip, circuit, system and antenna technologies that will underpin 5G wireless systems. The 4G LTE systems currently in use around the world will soon be replaced by 5G. However, 5G is not an update of 4G. It is a radically new system, using many different architectures, algorithms, circuits, chips and antennas than the previous system. The 5G wireless systems will enable faster streaming to mobile devices with theoretical speeds of up to 10 Gb/s as well as enabling the next generation of the Internet of Things.
ASIC Design & Verification Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) Design and Verification (ADV) Technologies provides students with advanced academic credentials in the algorithmic, chip, circuit, system and antenna technologies that will underpin ADV Wireless systems. Advanced silicon chips, including ASIC, power the remarkable systems we rely on every day. The Graduate Certificate in ASIC Design and Verification prepares professionals to meet the requirements of a growing industry in search of talent equipped to meet the needs of tomorrow.
Computer Engineering Graduate Certificate
The online Graduate Certificate in Computer Engineering is primarily for individuals who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in Computer Engineering either for future career opportunities or in preparation for a graduate degree. Students who complete the certificate will gain foundational knowledge in connected systems, networking applications and computer architecture. Hone your skills in the analysis, design and operation of computing devices and software with coursework totaling 12 credit hours.
Computer Science Graduate Certificate
This online and on-campus program is primarily intended for individuals who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in Computer Science either for future career opportunities or in preparation for graduate studies. Students who complete the certificate will gain in-depth knowledge in Computer Science concepts, methods and tools. Students have the option of completing the certificate part-time, e.g., by taking one course per semester.
Data Science Foundations Graduate Certificate
Offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics
This online and on-campus program is primarily intended for working professionals who have some formal training in computer science or statistics and wish to acquire a basic understanding of data science to improve their on-the-job experience and career prospects. Students have the option of completing the certificate part-time by taking one course per semester.
Downstream Biomanufacturing & Upstream Biomanufacturing Graduate Certificates
Graduate students and working professionals can now earn a new credential to kick-start or advance their career in the biopharmaceutical industry. The Downstream Biomanufacturing and Upstream Biomanufacturing graduate certificates offer NC State graduate students and working professionals the opportunity for hands-on learning in BTEC’s industry-scale simulated cGMP facilities.
Electrical Engineering Graduate Certificate
The online Graduate Certificate Program in Electrical Engineering (EE) is designed for those who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in electrical engineering either for future career opportunities or in preparation for a graduate degree. This certificate provides the opportunity for students to take graduate courses without the commitment of undertaking a full master’s degree. Some electrical engineering master's programs will let you apply your certificate coursework to degree requirements.
Engineering Management Foundations Graduate Certificate
This certificate is for engineering, STEM, or technical students seeking or experiencing transitions into increasing levels of responsibility and/or management roles. The program provides students the principles and foundational concepts for the planning and operational management of industrial, engineering, and technical organizational pursuits. Students may qualify to have their credits transferred into the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) degree program.
Materials Informatics Graduate Certificate
Administered by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering
The Materials Informatics (MI) Graduate Certificate Program (GCP) is designed for interdisciplinary graduate education at the intersection of materials science, engineering, and data science with the aim of preparing the next generation of materials engineers given the growing demand for data-science skills and knowledge of the artificial intelligence. The skills and knowledge obtained will serve as foundation for the understanding of materials informatics and high throughput materials discovery that will improve career prospects.
Materials Science and Engineering Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is designed for working professionals who do not have formal training in materials science and engineering but wish to acquire a basic understanding of the discipline. From nuclear materials to metallic materials processing, and from polymer technology to composite materials, this program opens the door to the knowledge you need to develop and test materials, and solve engineering problems related to materials capabilities.
Nano-Systems Engineering Graduate Certificate
Administered by the NSF Nanosystems Engineering Research Center (NERC) for Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST)
This multidisciplinary certificate is for students who want to develop additional expertise in the field of nano-science and technology. The graduate certificate consists of a sequence of courses that will equip students with the technical skills essential for graduate research in the field. In addition, the certificate teaches entrepreneurship and other relevant skills that will help students to be competitive in the modern engineering environment.
Nanobiotechnology Graduate Certificate
Joint program with UNC-Chapel Hill
With financial support from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State University offer graduate certificates in nanobiotechnology. The nanobiotechnology certificates are aligned with the need for highly trained professionals to nurture rapid growth of nanobiotechnology infrastructure in North Carolina.
Nuclear Nonproliferation Science and Policy Graduate Certificate
Administered by the Department of Nuclear Engineering and the Department of Political Science
The objective of the program is to educate students about nuclear nonproliferation, safeguards and security from both the global and the technical perspectives. Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art techniques. They will also develop an understanding of the technical and policy challenges of maintaining and supporting a robust nuclear nonproliferation regime policy.
Performance Based Earthquake Engineering Graduate Certificate
Administered by the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering
The program is intended for both working professionals and graduate students enrolled at NC State. Individuals who enroll in the program must have backgrounds in structural engineering and/or geotechnical engineering, and would select the program to provide distinction in their academic records that may improve career prospects.
Renewable Electric Energy Systems Graduate Certificate
