Course Objectives

Individual or team project work in integrated manufacturing systems engineering resulting in an engineering report. Required of all degree candidates in IMSE master’s program. Forms the basis for IMSE student’s final oral examination.

Course Requirements

All IMSE students are required to complete a Project. This Project is an academic requirement (6 hours of IMS 675) as well as a written report that is presented at an oral defense to a committee of 3 graduate faculty.

The project is usually the result of a long term internship (greater than 6 months full time at a company) where the student works independently but under the supervision of a company mentor and a University faculty advisor.

These internships foster independent learning as the student is expected to complete a “real-world” problem in an industrial environment and write and defend a thesis quality paper describing the experience. This experience, along with the academic coursework, make the graduates very valuable professionally.
