NC State’s online master’s degree in environmental engineering has been named the best in the nation, according to Best College Reviews.

Best College Reviews, an editorially independent college review journal, ranked the program first among 15 online master’s programs for 2018. Offered through the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering — one of the largest and best programs of its kind — the program is made available to distance education students via NC State Engineering Online.

The Master of Environmental Engineering degree program features eight concentrations, including solid waste management, groundwater hydrology, geo-environmental engineering, and water and waste treatment. The program is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in engineering.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports jobs for environmental engineers are growing steadily, thanks in part to increasing concern over water efficiency and wastewater treatment. The best master’s in environmental engineering online programs address these and other issues regarding sustainability and natural resources.

This ranking was created using the National Center for Education Statistics’ College Navigator database. The 15 best master’s in environmental engineering online programs were ranked based on the following criteria:

  • Tuition
  • U.S. News and World Report Recognition as a Top Online School for Master’s Engineering Programs
  • Customization Options
